[NL., cotset South American manakins: applied to sundry cotingine birds. (a) [ cap.] Applied in 1760 by Bri on to the blue purple-breasted manakin of Edwards, thus becoming in ornithology a genus having this species, Am since made the typical genus of the family Cotingida. pel is cotinga (Linnæus), or Cotinga cærule a, as its type; (b) [ cap. ] Applied in 1786 by Merrem to a genus of related birds, the cocks-of-the-rock ( Rupicolina ), of the genus Phœnicercus . 2. Any bird of the family Cotingida .
