[ βολή, change, exchange, Metabola (me-tab'o-lä), n. pl. [NL., neut. pl., transformation, as the Diptera, Lepidoptera, Coleoptera, and Hymenoptera: in contradistinction to the Hetero meta bola. In some systems the Metabola are regarded as a subcla of Insect a, correlated with Hem i meta bola and Ametabola. They are also called Hetero morph a and Holometabola. The three stages of such insects are those of the larva, pupa, and imago. The Me tabola are divided by some into the Mandibulata and Haus tell at a. Metabolia (met-a-bo'li-ä), n. pl. [NL.] Same as Metabola2.
