Antoine Cesar, 2a French physician, and member ef the Institute, born in Chat ill on-sur-Loing, March 7, 1788. In early life he served in the French army in Spain as an officer of engineers. He invented a new psychometer in 1866. He died in Paris, Jan. 18, 1878. His son, ALEx- ANDRE EpMonp (1820-1891) and his grandson ANTOINE HENRI (1852-1908), son of Alexandre, were also eminent physicists, and made valuable researches on the nature and chemical effects of light, and the magnetic properties of many substances.
