Governments often raise money upon annuities; that is, for a certain sum advanced, the government contracts to pay a specific sum for life, or for a term of years. - Annuity Act, an English statute of 1813 (53 Geo. III., c. 141) which required the registration of all instruments granting annuities, and regulated such grants.
