GEORGE, (ma'sn,) an American statesman, B. in Virginia in 1726, drew up the Declaration of Rights and the Constitution of that State, and in 1777 entered the Continental Congre , where he distinguished himself by his powers as a debater. While a member of the Convention which met to draw up the National Constitution, he refused to sign it on the ground that its articles leaned towards monarchical govt. D. 1792.
