Garboard

Is the lowermost strake of outside-planking, the lower edge of which is rabbet ted into the keel. The garboard, in many ve els is somewhat thicker than the bottom-planking, and some ships have even two or three strakes of thick planking near the keel; in such case, these two or three strakes together form the garboard.
