Gilding

Covering a substance with a gold layer. The oldest is by laying on gold-leaf, but electro-plating is now employed; ployed; the article to be plated is suspended in a solution of cyanide of gold and connected with the negative pole and a piece ece of gold in the solution with the positive pole. Porcelain is gilded with gold powder and turpentine, baked in a muffle, and polished.
