FRANKLINITE

a mineral composed of oxide of iron 64°5 to 66, oxide of zine 21:8, and oxide of manganese 12:23 to 13-5 per cent, belonging to the group of minerals called spinels. It is found in New Jersey and named after the town there. It is used for the manufacture of spiegeleisen, an iron containing 12 to 20 per cent manganese, and the zinc is recovered from the furnace gases.
