Oak

—The most important of all hard woods; it has a strong grain, often showing handsome figures, that obtained by sawing the wood quarterly being termed quartered oak. Its color is from light grayish yellow to dark brown, and it takes a high polish. Oak is employed on heavy work where great strength and durability are required, as in piles, ship building, and building construction, especially where exposed to the weather; also for furniture and inside decoration.
