Croton oil

Croton River, in New York , a stream which rises in Dutche co., and flows through Putnam co. into West chester co., where it joins the Hudson River abt. 35 m. above New York city, which it supplies with water through the Croton Aqueduct . Crotophag'inæ, n . pl . [Gr. krotos , a noise made by striking, and phago , to eat.] ( Zool . ) A sub-fam. of birds, of the fam. Cuculida. Its two chief American representatives are the ani or keel-bill, Crotophaga ani (fig. 130); and the Black Parrot, Crotophaga rugirostris, which is found from Florida to Brazil. See ANI.
