Collimating Eyepiece

For use in testing the adjust ment of the line of collimation of the transit instrument. It is provided with a reflector for throwing the light from a lamp upon the threads, to render them visible. The instrument is pointed to a basin of mercury placed below, the telescope being vertical. The direct image of the threads may then be seen together with that reflected from the mercury; if the adjustment is perfect the two will coincide.
