a coeducational institution in Chattanooga, Tenn., with departments also in Athens, Tenn.; founded in 1867, under the auspices of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Granville, George lLeveson- Gower, 2d Earl, an English statesman; born in London, May 11, 1815. In 1880 as _. secretary under Mr. Giadstone he displayed considerable diplomatic skill in matters relating tc the Berlin treaty, the occupation of Tunis, and the revolt of Arabi Pashe in egypt. He retired with his chiet in 1885, but returned once more tc office as colonial secretary in 1886, resigning again with his colleagues in August of the latter year. He died in London March 31, 1891.
