Any plummet may be used as a level provided its base is approximately perpendicular to the mean position of the plumb-line. If this hangs the same way when the whole is rotated 180°, the support is level. Also called masons ' level . plum-moth (plum'môth), n . A tortricid moth whose larva infests plums.
