Chevaux-de-Frise

Obstacle, used chiefly against cavalry; horizontal piece of timber, 10 ft. long by 6 in. or more in diameter, with pointed poles driven through at right angles to each other and 5 in. apart. The separate parts are strongly bolted together to form a continuous obstacle.
