Spahis

(spah'ez.) [See SEPOY. ] (Mil.) A title given to certain regiments of Turkish cavalry, and also to those regiments in the French army raised from among the Arab population of Algeria, and from the French themselves in about equal numbers, their dre partaking very much of the Arab character. [s. 842]
