DAVENPORT, CHARLES BENE

DICT (1866), an American biologist, b. at Stamford, Conn., s. of Amzi B. and Jane Joralemon Dimon Davenport. He was educated at Poly. Inst. Brooklyn, and at Harvard University. He was at first a istant then instructor in zoology at the latter institution from 1888-99, later a ociate profe or and curator of the Zoological Museum of the University of Chicago and in 1904 became director of the Station for Experimental Evolution, Carnegie Institution, Cold Spring Harbor, New York, where he later organized and directed the Eugenics Record office. During 1918-19 he was major, Sanitary Corps, U.S.A. He was a ociate editor of several eugenic and zodl. periodicals and in addition to contributing to biological journals was the author of numerous books on biology, zodlogy and eugenics.
