SALONICA

[s. 662] : A city and seaport in European Turkey, at the northeastern extremity of the Gulf of Salonica, which is an inlet from the Greek Archipelago. S. is the leading city of Macedonia, having commercial importance. Population, 105,000: Greeks, Bulgarians, Wall a chi ans, Turks and Spanish Jews. Station of the ABCFM (1894), with (1903) 2 mi ionaries, 1 of them with his wife; 26 native worlcers, 22 outstations, 12 places of worship, 10 day schools, 23 Sunday schools, and 490 profe ed Christians.
