Lay'-figure

(-fig-ūr.) (Paint.) A semblance of the human body made of wood or cork in such a manner as to be placed into positions or attitudes similar to those of man. It also serves on occasion as a model whereupon an artist arranges the drapery of his picture. [s. 532]
