Ferricyanogen, or Fer Rid Cyanogen

[Lat. fer rum, iron, and cyanogen.] ( Chem.) A radical derived from cyanogen, but which has never been isolated. It gives rise to salts known as ferricyanides, a good example of whick is the ferricyanide of pota ium, or red pru iate of potash of commerce. This salt is formed by pa ing chloride through a solution of ferrocyanide of pota ium. The liquid a umes a brown color, and, when evaporated, deposits beautiful red rhombic crystals. Ferricyanide of pota ium is prepared in large quantities for the use of the calico-printer. The splendid dye known as Turn bull's blue is formed by mixing it with a solution of pro to sulphate of iron. Form. for F., C12N12 Fe2.
