CONTEMPT

In Law, disobedience to the rules, orders, or proce of a court of competent authority. Contempt in court is punishable by fine and imprisonment: for contempt out of court an attachment may be granted. Contempt of the king's prerogative, by refusing to a ist him in the exercise of his lawful authority, <fcc. is a high misprision or misdemeanor. [s. 292]
