Assimilation

As a mental act, adjustment of an experience to the nature of the mind, or to the totality of past experience; apperception, and closely affiliated with the law of a ociation by similarity: apperceiving the meaning of a fact or the proce of making it an organic part of personal knowledge, rather than a mere adjunct from memory.
