Acetylene

(as-e/'-if eji), A colorle gas, with a characteristic and very unpleasant odor, burning with a luminous, smoky flame. Illuminating gas contains a small amount of it. Formed by the imperfect combustion of illuminating gas and other hydrocarbons. The acetylene series of hydrocarbons has the general formula, C„
