RANDIA

(Lat.), n. f. Ra'nd'P-a'. From Rand, an English botanist. Fr., gratgal, r., randie. A genus of the Qardenieae, of which the Randiece are a subtribe. [a, 35.] R. aculeata. Fr., bois de lance franc. Ink-berry, indigo plant; a West Indian species. The juice of the fruit is astringent, [a, 35.] R. dumetorum. An East Indian species. The fruit is used to stupefy fish, and medicinally as a powerful emetic, as a nervine, antispasmodic, and cardiac excitant, and as an external anodyne in rheumatism.
