Brown, ROBERT

ab. 1550-1633. Reputed founder of English Congregationalism. He formed a separatist society at Norwich 1581, but after frequent imprisonment conformed to the Church 1586, and received a benefice 1591; said to have died in jail. His first followers were called Brownists.
