Hypochlorous Acid

HCIO. Unstable acid, of which Bleaching Powder, calcium hypochlorite, is the most important derivative. It is made by pa ing chlorine into water containing mercuric oxide in suspension. It is a good bleaching and oxidizing agent. See BLEACHING POWDER.
