(küm-pūn'yûn.) [Sp.comp añon.] (Her.) The lowest member of certain knightly orders; as, a Companion of the Bath. Knight C., a knightly member next below a knight-commander. C., or Companion ladder. (Naut.) The staircase in a ship which leads from the quarter-deck to the cabin below. [s. 212]
