trumpet gall (trumpet gal)

A small trumpet-shaped gall occurring commonly upon grape-vines in the United States. The adult fly is not known, but from the gall alone the species has been called by Osten Sacken Cecidomyia vitis - viticola. trumpet-gourd (trum'pet-gord), n.
