An intrenchment hastily thrown up, consisting chiefly of a rampart and ditch, and serving as a temporary line of defence. -A mean, sordid wretch; a niggard; a close-fisted hunks. Earth'y, a. Consisting of, containing, or resembling earth; terrene; as, earthy substances. "Survey his dead and earthy image." - Shaks. -Inhabiting the earth; relating to earth; terrestrial.
