The technical characters of the family found veloped (rudimentary in Urside ); the teeth are 36 in number (40 in Procyonide); there are only 2 true molars on each side of either jaw, with 3 premolars, 1 canine, and 8 incisors. The ali sphenoid canal is well developed; the auditory bulla is very small, and is separated from the long trigonal paroccipital proce . Also written Ailuridæ. æluroid (e-lū'roid), a. and n. [ Eluroidea . II. n. A member of the Æluroidea . Æluroidea (e-lā-roi'dē-ä), n. pl . [NL.: see æluroid.] A superfamily section of feline fi iped carnivorous mammals, typified by the cat family, Felidæ , and containing also the families Crypto proc tid a, Protelida , Hyænid a, Viverrid a, and Euplerida (but not the family Æluride ): distinguished as a series from the Cynoidea or canine series, and the Arc to idea or ursine series (to which the family Ælurid a belongs). The carotid canal is not well developed; the glenoid foramen is minute or wanting the foramen lacerum poster i us and the condyloid foramen debouch together; Cowper's glands are are present; and the os penis is rudimentary, except in Cryptoprocta. Eluroidea typic a are the true felines or cats, of the families Felidæ and Crypto proc tidæ. Æluroidea hyæniformia are the hyenas, of the families Hyænide and Protelidæ.
