[Pref. pal-, and Lat. echinus (q. v.).] Palæont .: A genus of Per is cho ech in ide, said to occur in the Silurian, but certainly of Carboniferous age. The test is spheroidal, and the plates join without overlapping. Palæchin us gigas is found in the Carboniferous Limestone of Ireland. păl-æ-dăph-us, pā-lẽ đăph-us, subst. [Pref. palæo-, and Gr. edaphos =bottom, foundation (?).] Palæont .: A genus of Dipnoi, referred by Traquair to the section Ctenodipterines, from the Devonian formation.
