COHESION

is a force by which the various particles of the same material are kept together, forming one continuous ma . It differs from the attraction of gravitation in that it acts at insensible distances, or between particles in contact, and from adhesion in that it unites particles without producing any change of properties. Hardne , elasticity, ductility, etc., are modifications of cohesion.
