Its chemical properties resemble those of the other halogens (q.v.), and it occurs in nature chiefly in the form of sodium chloride (salt), carnallite, and sylvine, It is prepared by the action of hydrochloric acid on manganese dioxide, and on a large scale in the manufacture of alkali (q.v.) by the Leblanc Proce .
