A word employed figuratively for the swift retreat of an army from a victorious enemy; in gunnery, the flight of a shot or shell or the time during which it is pa ing through the air from the piece to the first graze; in aeronautics, the rise and pa age of an aeroplane through the air, distinguished from ascent, the rising of a balloon.
