( Bot. ) A genus of plants with yellow flowers, ord. Rosacer. The Common Agrimony, A. eupa toria, is a perennial herb common in Canada and in the U. S., to be found in fields, about hedges and shady places, and flowering in June. (Med.) The decoction of A. is a mild tonic, alterative and astringent; good for bowel complaints, chronic mucous diseases, gravel, asthma, coughs, and scrofula.A volatile oil may also be obtained of its root and leaves. Ag'riopes, n . pl . ( Zool .) A genus of acanthopterygion fishes, 8 to 9 inches in length, belonging to the family which Cuvier denominates joues cuira ées. The A. are meadows, or on dry soils.
