Angles

a German tribe who appear to have originally dwelt on the side of the Elbe between the mouth of the Saale and Ohre, and to have re moved N. from their old abodes to the modern Schleswig, where they dwelt between the Jutes and Saxons. Ix the 5th century they joined their powerful N. neighbors, the Saxons, and took part in the conquest of Britain which from them derived its future name of England.
