[Eng. iso ( meric ), and butyl ene.] [ISOBUTENE.] i-sō-bū-tyr-a-mide, subst. [Eng. iso (meric); butyr ( ic ), and amide.] Chem.: CHO NH(CH3)2:CH-CO-NH2. Prepared by heating i so butyric acid with ammonium thiocyanate. It is an agreeable, aromatic smelling, crystalline ma , soluble in water. It melts at 100%, and sublimes in the form of iridescent scales. 1-sō-bū-tyr-ātes, s . pl . [Eng. iso(meric), and butyrates .] Chem. The salts of i so butyric-acid, resembling in general properties the butyrates. Calcium i so butyrate, (C4H7O2)2Ca +5H2O, crystallizes in monoclinic needles, which are slightly soluble in cold, but very soluble in hot water. Silver i so butyrate, CHO2Ag, crystallizes from hot water in transparent scales. Zinc i so butyrate, (C4H7O2)2Zn, crystallizes in monoclinic prisms, which are soluble in cold water, but decrease in solubility as the temperature is increased.
