Spar

A general term for any shaped piece of timber, employed as a mast, bowsprit, yard, boom, gaff etc; or intended for such use. In modern practice the term u Spars ” is applied equally whether booms, yards etc. are made from a single piece of timber, or constructed either of various pieces of wood, or of iron or steel plates.
