the rite in the ‘Ohristian Church which follows baptism, a giving of the Holy Ghost; in Western Christen dom performed by the laying on of hands (and in the R.C. Church anointing with chrism) by the bp. In the Eastern Churches the bp. only consecrates the oil with which the parish priest anoints candidates.
