EDWARD, (rob'in-sun,) an eminent American biblical writer, B. in Conn.,1794. After studying Oriental languages and literature at Paris and Halle, R. became prof. of biblical literature in the Union Theological Seminary, New York city. In 1841 he produced, after a previous course of travel in Palestine, Biblical Researches in Palestine, Mount Sinai, and Arabia Petrza, for which he received the gold medal of the Royal Geographical Society of London. He afterwards published The Harmony of the Four Gospels (in Greek), and Bibliotheca Sacra. D. 1863. [s. 773]
