Counter Bracing

Braces connecting the chords of a bridge tru , whose office it is to carry certain stre es due to the weight of the train. They are smaller and are placed in a different direction from the main braces, which carry stre es due to both dead and moving loads. Counter-bracing was first used by S. H. Long 1836 in bridges built on the B. and O. R. R. Counter-clockwise.
