1. The English name of the great genus Campanula. It is so called because the corollas have a close resemblance to a bell. About ten species are found in Britain, the most common being Campanula rotund i folia , the Round-leaved Bell-flower or Harebell; and after it C. trachelium, or Nettle-leaved Bellflower; and C. hederacea, or Ivy-leaved Bellflower.
