Hearn, Lafcadio

journalist and author, born at Santa Maura, Ionian Islands, June 27, 1850; educated in England and France; went to the U. S., engaging in journalism in Cincinnati and New Orleans. He is the author of: Chita: a Memory of Last Island; Two Years in the French West Indies; Youma, and other works, and has acquired fame for his brilliant word-pictures of tropical scenery.
