A predaceous bug' of the family Pentato midæ; any rapacious reduvioid. Podisus spi nos us is a common North American species known as the spined soldier-bug. It preys upon many destructive larvæ, such as the fall web-worm, cutworms, and the larvæ of the Colorado potato-beetle. The ring banded soldier-bug is Peril lus cir cum cinct us.
