(eks-pek-ta' '-shun). Same as Expectant. E. of Life, the average number of years that persons of a given age, taken one with another, live, a uming that they die according to a given table of the probabilities of life. It thus has no relation to the most probable life of a single given individual. E. of L., Complete, the addition of one-half year to the curtate expectation to allow for that portion of a year lived by each person in the year of his death. E. of L., Curtate, the average number of whole or completed years lived by each Expectorant (eks-pek' -to-rant). person. I. Promoting expectoration. 2. A remedy that promotes expectoration.
