[In Fr. aleurit ; Gr. ἀλευρίτης ( aleurites ) = made of wheaten flour.] Bot. A genus of plants belonging to the order Euphorbiaceæ (Spurge-worts). The best known species is the A. triloba , which grows in the Moluccas, in India, and elsewhere. The nuts are believed to be aphrodisiac. The Tahitians chew the gummy substance which exudes from the seeds. In Ceylon gum-lac is made from the A. laccifera .
