[ Major can. Mallotus (ma-lō'tus), n. [NL. (Loureiro, 1790), kamila. 2. In ichth. ( Cuvier, 1829), a genus of fishes of the family Argent i nid a, formerly placed in Salmonid a, of which the male has a broad longitudinal villous or fleecy band of scales differentiated from the rest; the caplins.
