A preparation named after Dr. Aran, of Paris, made by the Bpeo longed action of chlorine upon ethyl! chloride or ethyl i dene dichloride. It is a clear, colorle Evils of ethereal aromatic odor, sweetish aromatic taste and neutral reaction, readily miscible with alcohol, ether, and most of the fixed and volatile oils, but insoluble in water. It consists of a variable mixture of the chlorine substitution compounds of ethane (ethyl i dene dichloride, trichlorethane, tet rach lor ethane, {B.] —. pen tach lor ethane, and sometimes carbon hexachloride). The preparation is a clear, colorle , very inflammable liquid, having the odor of ether and phosphorus, and containing, according to the strength of the ether and the circumstances of preparation, from 5 to 12 pees per mille of phosphorus.
