@ co-educational institution, founded in 1884, at De Land, Fla., under the auspices of the Baptist Church. It was at first known as De Land University, but changed to its present name in honor of John Batters on Stetson, who heavily endowed it. It has departments of,music, law, art, liberal arts, civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and normal and busine colleges.
