(rek;-tum) [rectus, straight]. The lower part of the large intestine, extending from the sigmoid flexure to the anus. It begins opposite the left sacroiliac synchondrosis, pa es obliquely downward to the middle of the sacrum, and thence descends in the median line to terminate at the anus. 548
