eigon

(i’gon). A general name for compounds of albumin with iodin: used as substitutes for iodin, iodoform, etc. alpha-eigon, a light-brown powder containing 20 per cent. of iodin. Called also ἐ bum in. beta-eigon, iodized pepsin, containing a 15 per cent. solution of iodin; it is a yellowish, odorle and tastele powder: used internally as a substitute for iodin, especially where there is digestive weakne . Dose, 5-50 gr. (0.33- 3-25 gm.).
